Most of the stars studied had been in the industry for about two decades. That’s longer than it has been since the 1970s, when many stars started making porn films.
The average age of a porn star is 22. That’s the same for both men and women.

Some of the most popular USA pornstars, such as Nina Hartley and Tom Byron, have been in the business for decades. But there are plenty of young stars who are rising to the top.
According to Griffith, young stars tend to be more risk-takers than older stars. They’re also more likely to use drugs than non-porn stars.
One reason for that might be their desire to make money and stay in the spotlight. Another might be their interest in sex.
In their analysis, the researchers found that a third of the porn stars had identified themselves as bisexual before entering the industry. That’s a surprising result, Griffith said. It could be because bisexuals are more likely to see themselves as good looking, and that’s a big draw for adult film makers.
It’s not uncommon for young women to enter the sex industry because they want to earn money, Griffith says. “It might be a way for them to do that without being in a traditional workplace.”
He also discovered that most porn stars have a hard time finding their feet, and that they tend to start off at a lower level than other performers. But as they get more experienced, they gain popularity.
